Central Orange Redevelopment Plan Amendment
• PROJECT TYPE: Community Engagement
• LOCATION: Orange, NJ
• SERVICES: Area Study, Land Use, Outreach and Engagement
Nishuane Group, LLC. was retained by the City of Orange Township to amend portions of the Central Orange Redevelopment Plan and conduct public engagement sessions. The study area consisted of a Transit Village that was separated into five (5) sub-districts: Transit Village Center (TVC), Transit Village District East (TVD-E) and West (TVD-W), Central Avenue Commercial Corridor (CACC), and the Residential Transit Village District. The boundary for the Central Orange Redevelopment Area (CORA) is Freeway Drive East (North), Central Avenue/ Jackson Street (South), Lincoln Avenue (West) and the borderline of the City of Orange Township and the City of East Orange (East). The redevelopment area includes 22 tax blocks and is approximately 132 acres. Landmarks in the area include, but are not limited to, the Tony Galento Plaza, Orange Memorial Hospital, Orange Train Station, Walter Alexander Village, and Lincoln Avenue Elementary School. Two major commercial corridors (i.e. Central Avenue and Main Street) are also found within the study area.
Throughout the project, zoning and design standards in the redevelopment area were revisited and revised. Additionally, recommendations to improve the land uses in the area were included. Inevitably, the Plan will serve as a tool to guide future development and revitalize the Central Orange Redevelopment Area (CORA).
