The Challenge

Freeway Drive is a thoroughfare, adjacent to Interstate 280 in the City of Orange Township and the City of East Orange. It was considered an impediment to pedestrians and drivers due to lack of signage, limited sidewalks and lack of street amenities. Additionally, the roadway proved to be inaccesible to public transportation.

Our Process

Nishuane Group assesed existing conditions and developed an inventory of the area’s assets. Additionally, the frm conducted a series of engagement sessions and charettes. Finally, we prepared a report with recommendations to transform Freeway Drive into a safer and more attractive corridor that complements adjacent land uses and local redevelopment initiatives.

The Result

Prepare a plan that addressess the concerns about Freeway Drive, as well as the issues articulated by Orange and East Orange residents, merchants, workers and other stakeholders.

  • Guide safety improvements
  • Recommend strategies to balance the needs of drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists
  • Create a vision for Freeway Drive to create a larger identity for the corridor and respective train station areas within the corridor
